In September 2022, the hacktivist group Guacamaya disrupted an entire continent. Hundreds of thousands of documents from intelligence offices in Mexico went public. The shocking truth for millions of women was that the government had labeled Mexican feminist groups as a threat level 10, equating them with militant outfits like Al-Qaeda and ranking them higher than most deadly cartels.
How did a movement advocating for women’s safety become a target of the government? Sangre Violenta / Sangre Violeta highlights stories of activism and survival from a radical feminist collective, an inspiring acid attack survivor, and a grieving father who tragically lost his seven-year-old daughter to femicide. These narratives reflect on their shared history of gender violence and question the future of women’s rights in a country where 10 women are murdered every day and 95% of these cases go unpunished.
